The beginners guide to using GoodGhosting on Kovan testnet 👻
Congratulations, if you are reading this you are most likely selected as one of our alpha testers! 🎉
Here, we will show you how to connect to our prototype on Kovan. This is live at https://dreamy-ptolemy-a5e2b3.netlify.app/
Before we launch on Ethereum’s main network, an early version of GoodGhosting is deployed to the Kovan testnet. This gives you the chance to kick the tires, before earning real 💵 assets. Tokens on Kovan have no real-world financial value.
1. Connecting MetaMask to the Kovan testnet
If you haven’t already, will need to install MetaMask on your computer or smartphone. Then make sure to connect it to the Kovan Test Network.
How?
Open MetaMask, by clicking the the little 🦊 icon. Then, select ‘Kovan Test Network’ from the drop-down menu at the top.
Great! You should now be able to connect to https://dreamy-ptolemy-a5e2b3.netlify.app/
2. Getting Kovan ETH ⟠
To interact with the GoodGhosting savings pool, you will need a small amount of Kovan Ether (kETH). This to cover transaction costs. You can get kETH from:
You should see your ETH balance increase after a few seconds.

- https://gitter.im/kovan-testnet/faucet (Twitter or Github login required)
💡 If none of the faucets work, don’t hesitate to shoot us a message at Discord with your ETH address. We will send you all the Kovan ETH you need.
🤫 In the final version of GoodGhosting, you most likely won’t need to pay any ETH for your stablecoin deposits.
3. Getting Kovan DAI 💰
Great. Let’s get some free DAI stablecoins on Kovan! This will be the currency that you use to save.
Head over to the faucet by Aave: over here and click on ‘Submit’.
This will bring up a pop-up by MetaMask.
Click on ‘Confirm’, and you should receive about 10000 Kovan DAI. These will be used to contribute to the GoodGhosting savings pool.
Again, don’t hesitate to shoot us a message at Discord with your ETH address, if these steps don’t work. We will send you all the Kovan DAI you need.
Note: there are different versions of DAI deployed on Kovan. Make sure you hold DAI from this address 0xFf795577d9AC8bD7D90Ee22b6C1703490b6512FD.
4. Connecting to the GoodGhosting prototype
Great! You have your testnet ETH and DAI, and are ready to interact with GoodGhosting! 💸 Time to beat the other alpha testers, and steal their interest!
Head over to https://dreamy-ptolemy-a5e2b3.netlify.app/
and click on
If you see the message “Too late to join!”, it means that the game is not live yet.

5. Playing GoodGhosting
As soon as the game is live, you will be able to join the game and make your first deposit via MetaMask. The rest should be pretty self-explanatory! 🎉
X. Optionally: Create a 3Box account
If you want to display your own username and avatar in the GoodGhosting UI, please follow these steps. If not, you will get assigned a random robot avatar.
Go to https://3box.io/hub and click on ‘Login’. You should see a few MetaMask pop-ups that you will need to accept. This will link your ETH address to a 3Box profile. There you can chose your username and avatar after clicking on ‘Add name’.
Note that this data is stored publicly and profiles are available for all to see. If you rathernot create a 3Box profile, this is fine too.
Remember, it’s just an Alpha 🧪
Please keep in mind this is just an early version available for testing on Kovan. During the game you will earn “fake” DAI of no real financial value. And yes, we expect there to be bugs!
