MAE SAI, Thailand — After more than two harrowing weeks, 12 Thai boys and their soccer coach emerged from the labyrinthine cave in which they had been trapped, thanks to a daring rescue operation that was personally spearheaded by Elon Musk.

The Thai boys were exploring the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system when monsoon rains flooded the cave, trapping them inside. A rescue team of Thai and international divers were able to find the boys in the cave after 9 days, but a perplexing problem arose: how would they extract the boys from the heavily flooded cave?

Just as the rescue team was about to throw up their arms and admit defeat, Mr. Musk reportedly read about the conundrum while commuting to work in his autonomous Tesla. The billionaire entrepreneur soon assembled a crack team of engineers from his suite of innovative yet wildly successful brainchild companies.

Some observers suggested sending a team of experienced divers into the cave to extract the children, but Mr. Musk dismissed the plan as foolhardy and “inelegant.” Instead, Mr. Musk’s team engineered an advanced mini-submersible to rescue the children with and rigorously tested it in the swimming pool of a local high school.

Mr. Musk, once recognized as the most handsome billionaire in Silicon Valley, then flew into Thailand on a prototype electric jet (that he had been building on the side), accompanied by his team of rocket scientists, battery engineers, artificial intelligence experts, and the three high-tech submersibles that they had built over the weekend. Within a day, all 12 of the boys and their coach had been transported out of the cave with the submersibles, with no hitches or injuries along the way.

“As expected, the mini-submarine turned out to be completely practical,” tweeted Mr. Musk. “Extremely robust. With some mods, this could also work as an escape pod in space.”

The boys are currently recuperating in a hospital but are in good condition, according to a tweet by Mr. Musk that included a video of him embracing the boys while a throng of volunteers chanted, “Elon Musk, Elon Musk, Elon Musk,” repeatedly. Later that day, the Thai king granted a knighthood to Mr. Musk for his rescue of the children and in recognition of his general awesomeness on the behalf of mankind.

Observers in Silicon Valley are hailing the rescue as a stunning example of how Silicon Valley technology can win over good old fashioned elbow grease. But Mr. Musk, never one to dwell on his success, has already flown out and moved onto working his next miracle — making Tesla profitable.
