Once you have created your Hamoye account (click here to read about how to create a Hamoye account if you do not have one), you may follow these instructions to take/enroll for a course on the platform:

1. Once you are signed in, you will automatically be directed to the activity feed. The activity feed is where you see other users’ public activities you follow on the platform like posts and comments.

2. At the top left corner of the page(as shown in the figure above) is the Hamoye logo, and to it’s right is a search box with the question: what would you like to learn? Go ahead and type in what you want to learn, then click search.

Note: To find the specific course you wish to take, you have to search with specific terms. The Hamoye search engine works pretty much like google, and a vague search might yield more search results than you can handle if you aren’t sure what you’re looking for. You can also weed out the results by clicking one of the suggestions your search generates.

In the figure above, Version Control with Git was searched for, and it yielded 61854 results.

However, when you click courses, it yields just 130 results. Now, that is easier to deal with, isn’t it?

3. You are all set for this next step, as soon as your search is made. Select the option you seek, and your desired page will be loaded. I clicked the Version Control with Git, and it led me here;

4.See that arrow in the figure above? The button points to what you would click on to enroll for the course of your choice. This Enroll button, after it is clicked, informs you that you are enrolled in the course is free, and in this case, it is free. This course is also individually paced, this simply means there’s no deadline for learning, and you can take as much time as you want to learn.

Upon clicking the enroll button, the button will update and change to “Enrolled”. This should be confirmed with a mail to your registered email address as seen below:

You can now revisit the course and learn as you please!

Let’s now proceed to learn how to properly engage a course

4. Once the enrollment is done, proceed to “Ongoing Course” under “My Courses”, find the new course you just enrolled in, and click on it.

5. To take a lesson on the course, once the new page is fully loaded, scroll through the course information till you see Lessons. Click on the topic (in blue text) situated directly below Lesson 1 (our courses are usually taken in lesson-sized bits, and the first lesson is always labelled Lesson 1). Here, it is titled Getting started with Git.

Click on each resource to begin. Whenever text is clicked, a pop-up text will appear, which is your lesson.

Enjoy your study, and close that pop-up once you are done studying at the top right corner of the pop-up (as shown).

The study is incomplete if it cannot be tested to check whether what has been studied is understood and retained, right?

6. Here, to take a quiz, go to the lesson where the quiz is, which in this case is lesson two.

If you want to click “quiz’’ directly, you won’t be able to. To navigate to the quiz, click first on the lesson two topic highlighted in blue- Project.

7. In the picture below, it can be seen that clicking “Lesson 2” will launch its resources along with the quiz. After studying the resources, you may now click the accessible “Take the Quiz” button and take the quiz.

Thereafter, you can conclude this course by clicking the “Finish Course” button, and that’s a wrap.
