3 Reasons Why I Decided to Write for 30 Consecutive Days

To me, being consistent can be one of the toughest things to do, simply because I lack persistence if I do things by myself. However, if I have partners in crime, it means something else.

Last month, I joined this community called Handal, and I succeeded in writing one post a day. To be honest, I never thought I would succeed, because of my hectic schedule. Last month, I had to teach many classes a day, and once I got home, it was already 10PM-ish. So I thought posting once a day would be impossible, especially since Handal’s rule stated that every daily post is due 11:59 P.M. However, because my teammates cheered me up whenever I felt like giving up, I somehow managed (I call it a superpower)to successfully complete this journey of writing one post a day for 30 consecutive days.

How did I feel after?

I couldn’t be happier. Recalling my past, I have achieved most of my goals, because I value responsibility. To me, doing what I promise to do is always a priority. As a result, I never promise something I cannot do. But this time, I gladly took the challenge even though it seemed impossible to get it done, and I did it!

That indescribable feeling right there made me challenge myself again. This time, I’ll write one post a day in English, on Medium, for the next 30 days, and today marks ‘Day 0’, a moment to sit back and relax and put myself together to be ready for this challenge.

So, going back to my major point: Why Handal?

1. Strong Networking

Honestly, I have met so many great people via Handal. I rarely get motivated by people, because I’m workaholic and thus, I work hard for myself already. This means that my standard of ‘working hard’ is pretty up there somewhere. However, these people I met at Handal, they’re different — man, they’re just purely awesome. They all know what they’re doing, and they work when they have to work. These people are real, and I am so thankful that I met these great people via Handal. Yes, Handal’s one of million strengths is strong networking.

2. Perfect Setting

Every Handal member is expected to write one post a day, so practically, everyone writes for 30 days straight once the program begins. Then, each member has to share a link to his or her post with other teammates. So each day, I get hundreds of different links from my teammates that I get to enjoy reading throughout the day, and I just love to sneak-peek at their insights. In fact, this setting motivates me to never skip a day. I know my teammates are motivated by my thoughts in writing, just like I do, so that’s one of the reasons why I can never stop writing.

3. Self-Improvement

Reminiscing back, I have tried with all my might to write one post a day, so that I can not only improve my writing skills but also record my thoughts to cherish my daily life every day. However, although I did everything what I could, I just couldn’t stay focused. It was not that I didn’t have enough time. It was not that I didn’t have something to write about. I had everything I needed to grow as a writer, yet I guess doing it by myself was way too difficult. Thus, I decided to put myself into a setting where I can just be myself and write my thoughts down. And yes, that was Handal.

My choice was not wrong.

Indeed, I was absolutely right!

Through writing my thoughts down every day, I realized that I was the biggest beneficiary of all. It changed my mind and grew my heart, and words cannot describe how thankful I am.

As aforementioned, writing one post a day for 30 consecutive days is definitely not an easy task to do alone; however, I am certain that this journey will be full of excitement and adventures if I walk with my fellow teammates in Handal Medium.

Indeed, I’m beyond excited!
