This is an original pattern (written in English using American terminology) to crochet cute Starfish!

The starfish measures approximately 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter.

This pattern includes detailed instructions of how to crochet starfish and a lot of step-by-step photos.

From the author

My name is Angelina. I design the patterns for cute crochet toys, for creative people who love to make soulful gifts to loved ones with their own hands. I want people to enjoy crocheting, shut off their brains and to be transported back to childhood thanks to my designs. These toys you’ll want to love, give and have at home.

Stock up on yarn, hook and a good mood. I wish you a pleasant time and crochet charming animals.

Thanks and happy crocheting!

Angelina Taranina

Materials:

  • Hook 2,0 mm
  • Yarn “Alpina Rene Twist ” 125 m/50 gr (color: 02 and 03, I crocheted in one thread, expense — less than 1 skein)
  • Weight: Fingering (14 wpi)
  • White threads
  • White threads mouline
  • Needle
  • Synthepus for filling
  • Pin or marker
  • Yarn needle (thick needle with blunt end)
  • Scissors.

My finished starfish was 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter.

On a note

For convenience, mark the first single crochet with pin or marker at the beginning of each round. Check the number of loops after each crocheted round (it is indicated in round brackets). You can choose a completely different yarn than suggested here. In this case, you need to choose the size of the hook yourself. Try to crochet so that the stuffing material is not visible in the toy. If you can’t crochet more tightly, take a smaller hook.

Conventions

l — loop= chain

sc — single crochet

inc — increase

dec — decrease

{sc3tog} — sc next 3 stitches together (single crochet decrease)

(…l) — total number of loops in a round

[…]xN — repeat what is indicated in round brackets N times

Make it Step — by — step

1: 2 loops, 5sc in 2nd loop from hook (amigurumi ring) (5l)

2: [inc]х5 (10l)

3: [2sc, 9 loops, turning, 8sc starting from the 2nd loop from the hook, sc in the same loop (in which the last sc was crocheted before 9 loops) ]х5 (100l) (see photos 1–4)

4: 100sc (100l) (see photos 5, 6)

5: [dec, 8sc, dec, 8sc]х5 (90l)

6: [sc, [sc, dec]х2, sc, { sc3tog }*, sc, [dec, sc]х2]х5 (60l)

  • {sc3tog} — sc next 3 stitches together (single crochet decrease) (see photos 7–9).

7: [sc, dec]х20 (40l)

8: [3sc, { sc3tog }, 2sc]х5 (30l)

Start stuffing the starfish with synthepus (see photo 10)

9: [sc, dec, dec, sc]х5 (20l)

10: [dec]х10 (10l) Completely fill the toy.

11: [dec]х5 (5l)

Trim the thread. Pass the thread through all the loops using the yarn needle. Tighten and secure (see photos 11, 12).

Embroider with white threads 5 auxiliary lines from the center of the star to its arms (see photo 13).

Make a knot in the center of the star with white thread floss, for this, wrap the embroidery thread around the needle in the direction away from you. Then insert the needle in the same place and pull it out in the next round (see photos 14–16).

In the same way, make 5 more knots in the next two rounds (see photos 17, 18).

In the next round make 5 French knot stitches. To do this, wrap the embroidery thread two times in a direction away from you, then insert the needle in the same place and pull it to the location of the next knot (see photos 19–22).

For clarity, watch this video, to see how to embroider simple and French knots:

Embroider 7 simple knots on each arm of the star (see photos 23–25).

Remove auxiliary lines (see photo 26)

Starfish is ready (see photo 27) :)
