What is that all about?

As a Scrum Master or an Agile Coach, you often need to design and deliver trainings and workshops around specific topics. Topics could range from general Agile concepts to specific technical practices. As you do this quite often, you want to make sure that it’s effective and worth the time.

Training from the Back of the Room book cover

I was looking for help in this area when I stumbled on Training from the Back of the Room (TBR) developed by Sharon Bowman.

What is TBR?

Training from the Back of the Room (TBR) covers principles and practices that you can employ to design an immersive learning experience:

  • The brain science behind how we learn and retain information (“cognitive neuroscience”) summarized in 6 concise principles (The 6 Trumps)
  • Training design and delivery model, the 4C Map, that provides repeatable structure for building instructional materials. I have found this structure to be useful for designing training workshops, courseware, conference talks etc.

How can I learn more?

The official 2-day “Training from the BACK of the Room” (TBR) Practitioner Class is a globally-acclaimed, interactive, skills-building train-the-trainer class for anyone who is a trainer, teacher, instructor, coach, or facilitator of learning.

In this 2-day TBR Practitioner Class, you’ll explore how the human brain really learns, which is very different from traditional assumptions about learning. And you’ll be introduced to “cognitive neuroscience” concepts — the brain science behind all effective instructional design and human learning.

Hands-on Business Agility (HBA) will be organizing the official training in Toronto and other parts of Canada in 2020. Watch this space for more information in the coming weeks.
