Lifehack tip #05: Block distractions like your life depends on it.

We live in a modern world where distractions are everywhere, and our addiction for micro releases of dopamine from social media is out of control.
This begs the question: How can one block distractions and remain focused on the job at hand? With force, that’s how.
Tips:
- First of all, and excuse the French, stop checking your fucking phone every 5 minutes. Constantly diverting your attention from one task to another is going to kill your productivity. The best thing to do is turn on airplane mode, and literally put your device out of sight. A really neat app to track your phone usage (and reduce it) is Moment.
- Block distracting websites and apps with the Focus app. This amazing little app lets you set a schedule of when you want to be working (e.g. from 10am > 6pm), and blocks any distracting websites or apps during that time, such as Facebook or YouTube. It even forcibly closes distracting apps that you nominate! Definitely enable hardcore mode, and see just how productive you become!
- Install the WasteNoTime browser extension, which allows you to limit how much time you spend on certain websites each day. For example, you could set a limit of 30 minutes a day for Facebook. If you exceed that limit, it will block the site until the day is over.
- Set boundaries with other people you work with. Let them know that unless they organise something with you ahead of time in the calendar, that they should leave you alone and not interrupt your flow.
You’re not set to dramatically reduce distractions during working hours.
