How often have you thought that controlling a situation was the only way to trust that it would go smoothly? Or maybe controlling the situation was the only way you could ensure the outcome you wanted. And how many times did the outcome not go as planned despite your overbearing control?

There is a fine line between thoughtful preparation and obsessive-control-freak behavior. I used to be the control freak and I have learned that self-trust doesn't come from control but instead, it comes from flexibility.

This weekend I taught meditation at my first in-person event for the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild in Los Angeles. I have been a member of the Editor’s Guild for nearly 20 years. I have been a meditator for 13 years and a meditation teacher for 2 years. Before this, I had only taught online and I was both nervous and excited to be face-to-face in the same room with people. (It’s amazing how COVID has affected my social comfort level…but that’s a topic for another day!)
