Trips with Jim

From Jenn

A walk in Quidnet, Nantucket, August 2011
Nantucket. At first Jim made me learn the about the Whaler history, view the historic sea captains’ homes, see the old jail… then I learned about Jared Coffin, the Brotherhood of Thieves, and the Company of the Cauldron. I thought the place was haunted. There was always so much mystery and mystique about the island. As I got older I started to appreciate the cobblestone streets (rather than curse them)… the nature preserves, and the great beaches and restaurants.

Nantucket August 2011
Danielle, Marylyn, Jim and I enjoyed time together in Northeast Harbor and the coast of Maine. Visits to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket were always highlights of our summers. Jim and Danielle’s gracious hospitality brought us together for fun, laughter, adventures and wonderful memories.

From Susan

When we had families and kids of our own, we took several trips to Nantucket. We did A LOT of biking and Jim was always in charge and leading the pack. Everyone was in good spirits and we had lots of laughs on those trips.

Paris with the Goldman’s, February 2002
Many, many trips to Europe over the years, and ski trips to Vermont.

From Peter

In September 2009, we spent a week in Bordeaux and Saint Emilion visiting as many chateaus and sampling as many wines as possible in such a short time. Jim decided that the best way to bring back the biggest variety of wine was to buy half
bottles. However, I believe half were consumed before he got home.

Monet’s Garden, Giverny, France, April 2013
I loved spending a week in Paris last April with Jim, Danielle and Kate. My parents seem very “in their element” in Europe. Highlights were strolling the narrow streets, lounging in the gardens in Place des Voges and going to Giverny. Also really loved our trip to Acadia Maine in August.

Last June Jim, Danielle, Marylyn and I traveled together to Cornwall and the southwest coast of England for a memorable trip with the University of Hartford President’s College. Accompanied by Cornwall native and President Emeritus Humphrey Tonkin, we spent a fascinating week at Godolphin, a medieval castle, with eight other adventurous Hartford area travelers. It was an incredible journey, highlighted by art, music, history and culture— a beautiful blend of education, entertainment, learning and leisure.
