When Magic Mushrooms Were Trialled to Quit Smoking, an Incredible Thing Happened

Magic mushrooms have been going through clinical trials for treating various things recently from depression and anxiety to cluster headaches and OCD with very promising results.

A study at the Johns Hopkins University looked at if the active drug in the mushrooms, psilocybin, would be useful to help people quit smoking.

The smoking results were very positive – but what happened aside from that was nothing short of incredible.

Smoking Results

While the use of magic mushrooms remains illegal outside official study settings, the most successful therapy for quitting smoking is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with around a 25% success rate. Some claim hypnotherapy can be higher but these claims are unclear and unsubstantiated.

At the 12 month follow up of the psilocybin study, which combined CBT with taking the drug, 67% of participants still weren’t smoking – almost double the expected rate from CBT alone.

This is exciting news by itself, but even more so was what else was reported by the participants:
