We know you don’t need any encouragement when it comes to living with a paw friend. However, if someone in the family needs a little more convincing, here are a selection of benefits that come with owning a dog that are sure to secure the deal.

Two things to remember with this list.

  1. If your kids have been begging you for a dog DON’T let them read this list, you will lose that battle. You’re welcome.
  2. If you are trying to convince the people you live with you need a dog, memorise this list and let the good boy roll!

Love at first sight

Just one look into your pooches eyes and your body releases the hormone oxytocin. This instantly binds you and your best friend together by improving maternal bonding and trust. Not only will you fall immediately in love with your pup but, as an added bonus, oxytocin also lowers blood pressure! So puppy love AND a stress reliever. Dogs are the best! Plus, puppy love, it seems, is an ACTUAL thing!

Busy bee

It’s no secret that having a canine companion gives a massive boost to your social life. Whether this includes puppy parties in the park, meeting other pooch lovers at training classes or forming a dog walking group, there’s even more reason to mingle with others once you’ve introduced a dog into your life. Here’s the real kicker, dogs and dog owners are inherently good at making friends. What’s even better? If you’re single you know you’re going to need to end up with someone who loves dogs, RIGHT?! What better way to meet your future partner than through the mutual bonding of your dogs. #Winning.

Non-stop smiling

It has been shown that owning a dog increases happiness and reduces feelings of depression. There are many reasons why pooches keep a smile on our faces. For starters the obvious; Dogs. Are Hysterical. You know this is true, just go on YouTube, you’ll see what we mean. Our canine friends are also ridiculously cute, so when you are near them and they’re being all amazing of course you’re going to smile!.

Self confidence boost

Believe it or not, dogs have the power to tell you more about yourself and your personality. They often bring you out of your shell and provide meaning and purpose to your daily life. Rescuing and adopting dogs is a great way to boost your personal happiness through making a difference to an animal’s life. Trust us, all that love you show your pooch will come back through the way they look at you, love you and take up the sofa — it’s all good, they’re great for cuddling up with.

Keeping active

Owning a dog requires an active lifestyle. Your pooch needs to be walked and entertained frequently, meaning that you will naturally increase your exercise levels. And guess what? That personal trainer who promises to lick you into shape isn’t going to do that for free! Your dog will literally lick you for free and you can spend many a happy hour chasing after them and their favourite ball in the park. Just remember, they have twice as many legs as you so don’t worry if they’re MUCH faster than you are!

Forever young

It has been suggested that if you own a pet and are 65 or older, you are 30% less likely to seek medical help. Known as the “pet effect”, health benefits that come with having a canine companion include lower cholesterol, reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and decreased stress and depression. Did we mention that being a dog owner is ENDLESSLY rewarding?

Life is better with a dog by your side, FACT. If your partner isn’t sold on getting a dog we suggest one of two things:
1. Show them this list.

2. Leave your partner, get a dog and you’ll find someone better with the help of your new four-legged friend.

From all of us here at ADAPTIL, thanks for being PAWESOME dogs of the world!
