Out of a total of 127 applicants, HARA was one of only twenty top start-ups invited to present their ideas at the Rabobank Food Loss Challenge Asia Pitch Day.

The Food Loss Challenge Asia is an initiative by Rabobank that aims to look for solutions to address the global problem of food loss. At the Pitch Day event, start-ups from all over Asia pitched their ideas to reduce food loss to food and agriculture industry leaders and investors.

Indonesia is no stranger to food loss. In fact, post-harvest loss of crops regularly hits 20% because of a very inefficient value chain from farmer to consumer.

At the event, HARA Head of Partnerships, Renée Corstens, explained how HARA will attempt to solve this problem through our blockchain-powered data exchange ecosystem.

“HARA aims to make information available for everyone to benefit, so everybody in agriculture value chain can make better data driven decisions to improve efficiency and reduce food loss.

It was a real pleasure to present our ideas in a room full of people that share the same goal. The feedback HARA received was very encouraging,” — Renée Corstens, HARA Head of Partnerships

Cooperation

One of the main take-always of the event was the importance of working together, as emphasized in an impassioned address by Albert Boogard, Head Innovation of the Rabobank Foundation.

He stressed the importance for the attendees to work together to reach their full potential and benefit the entire value chain, instead of just parts of it.

“We would like to encourage you to integrate further by cooperating with each other. Because many of your ideas are very complimentary to other ideas that we’ve seen this afternoon,” — Albert Boogard, Rabobank Foundation Head Innovation

Through cooperation, companies will be able to exceed themselves. He illustrated this by giving the example of the Netherlands. Despite being a relatively small country, the Netherlands was able to become the second largest exporter of agricultural products in the world because companies worked together.

“[It’s] not only because of sound government policy, it’s also about companies working together. The horticulture companies, the tech suppliers, the growers, they all create products by cooperating,” — Albert Boogard, Rabobank Foundation Head Innovation

Working together with others that have the same mindset is something HARA is very proud of. Our ever growing network of partnerships will only help us reach more people as we work to creating a real social impact.

HARA would like to thank the Rabobank Foundation for the invitation to come and present our ideas at the Food Loss Challenge Asia Pitch Day, and we look forward to exploring any opportunities that resulted from it!
