The Morning Meeting
In which a middle-aged white business man in a blue suit is meeting another middle aged white business man in a blue suit.
1. int. fancy office building lobby. morning.
A man in his mid 40’s stands towards the wall of the busy lobby. He’s clean shaven, attired in a blue suit. On his phone screen, we see an open email, with the subject line “Morning meeting”.
JOHN
(Under his breath) Paul Smith (pause). Paul Smith. Wearing a navy suit.
JOHN looks up across the sea of people. Most are men wearing blue suits.
JOHN (CONT’D)
(Thinking) He must be here somewhere.
His eyes move to and fro.
JOHN
(Thinking) Oh, that must be him.
JOHN walks purposefully towards the camera, smile on his face, and a hand raised as if to flag someone down.
JOHN (CONT’D)
Paul! Paul!
We see a middle aged white man in a navy suit turn around, confused.
JOHN (CONT’D)
Paul? Paul Smith?
MIDDLE AGED WHITE BUSINESS MAN 1
(Shaking his head) Sorry, wrong guy.
JOHN
Oh, sorry. Thanks.
The businessman walks off, consumed in the crowd.
JOHN squints eagerly across the room, towards another man in a blue suit.
JOHN (CONT’D)
(touching a man’s elbow) Paul?
MIDDLE AGED WHITE BUSINESS MAN 2
(annoyed) Yes?
JOHN
Sorry, are you Paul Smith?
MIDDLE AGED WHITE BUSINESS MAN 2
No (increasingly frustrated).
I’m late for my meeting, do you mind?
JOHN
Of course, my mistake.
2. int. fancy office building lobby. various. morning.
We see a supercut of JOHN interacting with 5 middle-aged white men in blue suits, only to find that none of them are Paul Smith.
Cut to an aerial view of the lobby, where we can clearly see there are multiple middle-aged white men in blue suits wandering aimlessly around the lobby, cautiously approaching one another.
(V/O) JOHN
