Tacos are considered to be a delicacy to many Latinos. The food is a dish that can be adapted to various cuisines such as Mexican, Filipino, and even vegetarian. For a Mexican cuisine grab some adobada, pineapple, and guacamole sauce. For a Filipino cuisine get some Thai chicken, red onion, and yogurt sauce. Lastly, for a vegetarian cuisine use refried beans, pico de gallo, and avocado. Tacos are all about mixing and matching and thus there are assorted results. The question then is: Do tacos bring any health benefits to consumers? Let us delve into each part of the taco to find out.

1Tortilla
The tortilla is a necessary part of a taco and the correct one can make or break the dish. Corn tortillas, which are the most popular choice for tacos, are full of fiber. People who want to opt for a healthier alternative can use lettuce as their taco shell. Another healthy alternative is nopal tortillas which instead of corn uses nopal, a type of cacti, in the tortilla recipe. On the unhealthy side, there are flour tortillas which use lard in the ingredients as well as hard shell tortillas which might be fried.

2Protein
Tacos can be filled with many parts of the protein food group. There are a lot to choose from such as beans, meats, and vegetables. After choosing a protein, people can make their tacos better through the preparation of the protein. This includes using a barbecue wash or even a simple dash of salt and pepper.

To make a taco more protein-packed, people can use seafood meat such as shrimp. Some of the ways that protein could be unhealthy would be if there is excessive fat in the meat or if too much oil is used during the cooking process. It is also important to use diverse types of proteins in order to get different nutrients.

3Toppings
With the right toppings, people can hide the healthy ingredients they may not like much. The range goes from onion and tomato to cheese and mango. All of these ingredients come from different food groups which can help to fulfill the requisites for the day. Also, with a different group of toppings, each taco can become a different world.

People have different opinions for the toppings they prefer. While some go for more spice others go for more traditional routes.

4Salsa
The salsa can be seen as a topping but it deserves its own entry because a lot can go into a salsa. A usual green salsa can contain tomatillos, onion, garlic, jalapeños, cilantro, serrano pepper, and kosher salt. That is six ingredients that help to maintain a healthy body and they all come together into a delightful salsa. Salsas are also great because due to their spiciness people will get a kick that can boost the immune system.

How a salsa is presented does not really matter, the most important part is the taste.

No matter the health benefits of tacos it is always a good time to be eating them with friends and family. In a way, the act of being together is the greatest benefit of eating tacos. This makes it possible for people to have mental health which is a part of wellbeing that many forget about. All in all, grab a group of loved ones and head on a taco-filled journey whether it is in a personal kitchen or the local taco shop.
