New York, NY, March 1, 2024 — CR Capers, Founder and CEO of the Harlem Film House, has been recognized with the prestigious President’s Award for her outstanding dedication to providing access and opportunity through her non-profit organization. The award, presented by the White House, acknowledges Capers’ tireless efforts in advancing the arts and empowering diverse communities.

Capers received an official letter of commendation signed personally by President Biden and two gold medals (the nation’s highest honor for community service works), recognizing her current and past service in championing inclusivity and creativity for marginalized creators within the film industry. Capers was bestowed the honor after having her name submitted by longtime friend and colleague Sir Shefik.

The Harlem Film House, under Capers’ leadership, has become a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring filmmakers and artists from underrepresented backgrounds.

In 2016, she established the award-winning Hip Hop Film Festival and the fest’s global tour, which boasts a 700 member strong alumni of the top emerging and established directors and writers in independent film.

In 2019, she founded the Harlem Film House XR, forging a path for equity, opportunity in Web3 deploying AR/VR/XR/AI. The XR division focuses on creating film industry and economy in the metaverse for BiPOC creators.

Her month-to-month program ACT UP!, is where greenlit playrights, screenwriters, directors and the best actors and actresses come together for live theatrical reads and networking with influential producers and investors to foster growth and opportunity among BiPoc creatives. Through innovative programs, mentorship initiatives, and community outreach, Capers has fostered an environment where individuals can thrive and realize their artistic potential.
