New York, NY — The Hip Hop Film Festival is delighted to reveal the top three finalists for its prestigious ACT UP! Screenwriter Competition. After receiving an overwhelming number of exceptional submissions from talented writers across the globe, the judging panel had the challenging task of narrowing down the finalists to these remarkable contenders.

The ACT UP! Screenwriter Competition, held annually by the Hip Hop Film Festival, aims to discover and recognize outstanding screenwriting talent. The competition fosters creativity, celebrates diversity, and provides a platform for fresh voices to showcase their unique perspectives through the art of storytelling.

The three finalists for the ACT UP! Screenwriter Competition are:

1. SherLan D. Moore with her script “BLUE HONEY”:

“BLUE HONEY” In this sci-fi amusement ride, three alien buddies discover that the answer to all of their financial woes is the alien made cure-all Blue Honey. It’s sinisterly delicious!

2. Isaiah Mouw with his script “BALL DON’T LIE”:

“BALL DON’T LIE” A mercurial, selfish black NBA star wakes up in the 1950s all-white NBA, where his last-placed Lakers are desperate for a championship to break a franchise curse.

3. Marlon St. John Green with his script “THEY GOT YOU”:

“THEY GOT YOU” In this fish-out-of-water comedy, a mostly black wedding party is lost in the woods where they’re hunted by something that’s not Bigfoot because Bigfoot is a silly myth made up by white people. Or is it?

The Hip Hop Film Festival is excited to showcase the exceptional talents of these three finalists at the upcoming festival event. The winner of the ACT UP! screenwriter’s competition will not only receive bragging rights, but will also win a spot in the coveted NOSTOS SCREENWRITER’S RETREAT in Tuscany, Italy. The super exclusive 3-week retreat is designed to immersive writers in creative process while perfecting their script for a feature film or TV pilot. The luxurious retreat is one of the most hard to get into programs, with only 8 people granted access out of thousands of submissions.

“We were blown away by the quality and originality of the submissions we received for the ACT UP! Screenwriter Competition,” said CR Capers, the founder of the Hip Hop Film Festival. “These three finalists truly embody the essence of great storytellers, and their scripts have the potential to inspire, entertain, and provoke important conversations. We can’t wait to see their stories brought to life.”

The Hip Hop Film Festival will take place from August 11–20 and will feature an array of exciting film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities. The festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of hip-hop cinema and culture.
