Below, we’ve chosen out six of the top streaming games on YouTube and Twitch for March 2018. These games aren’t chosen because they have the highest view counts; rather, they’re picked out because they are the most interesting stories happening right now in streaming. For the full list, visit us at Harpeview.

Fortnite

Youtube: 1.96 billion views | Twitch: 83.21 million views

Fortnite maintained its number 1 ranking on both YouTube and Twitch in March, and streamer Ninja gave Twitch a new record high for most concurrent views when he played the game with Drake. Other content creators streamed tournaments, compilations of funny in-game moments, and even videos related to Fortnite’s development over the years.

Fortnite isn’t yet an official eSport, but the most popular YouTube video for March was still a tournament between Spanish YouTubers, currently with 14.8 million views.

Far Cry 5

YouTube: 184.62 billion views | Twitch: 7 million views

Far Cry 5 racked up views and hype before its official launch with sneak peeks from top streamers on YouTube and Twitch, helping the game attract a 20-million strong audience on YouTube on its release day. Events held by Ubisoft itself such as Far Cry 5/Reality 2, where famous YouTubers go through real-life scenarios from the game, further created hype around the game.

Intriguingly, Ubisoft itself produced the most popular YouTube video for March, roping multiple Spanish streamers into a reality show version of Far Cry 5.

Sea of Thieves

YouTube: 84.69 million views | Twitch: 11.29 million views

Despite quite a few negative press reviews, thousands of players were drawn to the the open seas for Sea of Thieves’ release. The game’s open world, co-op mode, and freedom to do whatever you want, from looting other players or holding a dance party with strangers on deck, lent to the streamability of the game.

Sea of Thieves’ most popular YouTube video for March was simply the Xbox trailer for the game.

Hello Neighbor

YouTube: 30.08 million views | Twitch: 59,665 views

TinyBuild announced Hello Neighbor finally creeping onto the PS4 and the Switch later this year, inviting thousands of new players to discover the secret that hides in the neighbor’s basement. Mods are sustaining this single-player game’s popularity on YouTube and Twitch, with the most popular mods giving the game life through new endings, and building a richer backstory for the titular ‘neighbor’ with fan-made levels.

Hello Neighbor’s most popular YouTube video from March offered a happy ending for the game.

Path of Exile

YouTube: 9.91 million views | Twitch: 6.07 million views

Despite being the oldest game on the list, Path of Exile manages to keep its user base engaged with reliable seasonal updates that always add something significant — unlike its competitor, Diablo 3. For March, the game sent players on a Pokemon-esque hunt for 290 creatures through the ‘Bestiary update’.

Path of Exile’s most popular YouTube video for March was a build guide.

Slay the Spire

YouTube: 4.22 million views | Twitch: 1.24 million views

Rogue-like game Slay the Spire from indie developer Mega Crit picked up steam on YouTube and Twitch, edging ahead of more popular collectible card games like Magic: The Gathering on its Steam early access launch. The card-game, which has yet to be released worldwide, already has a loyal following, and has been called “the best CCG game on Steam” by Polygon.

Gamers are already creating speedruns for Slay the Spire.
