Butter opens in Banani

Every Dhaka-ite who has a sweet tooth fondly remembers Yellow Submarine Cafe, where their love for waffles blossomed. The small cafe located in Banani encouraged people to really talk to each other while at the store, instead of browsing the web by deliberately not providing free Wi-Fi service. It was an ideal go-to place with friends and was in the making of some of the happiest of memories.

Inevitably, the closing of our favorite Yellow Submarine Cafe back in 2016 caused heartbreak to so many. Since then, people had gone bananas (pun definitely intended) looking for a substitute serving such mouth-watering yet affordable waffles. But nothing quite made it there until recently, as Waffled opened in Dhanmondi in February and Butter in Banani, this month, both from the founding partners of YSC itself.

Butter started its journey first as a delivery-only bakery operating from Gulshan, which delivered sweet goodness all around Dhaka and ultimately came to Banani as the much anticipated waffle house. Located on the first floor of FR Tower in Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Butter has carried much of the appearance of YSC into the store- the same happy yellow all over the place, a fun and cozy seating arrangement except, it’s much more spacious than YSC. The place has an amazing soundtrack too!

At butter, you can enjoy sweet and savory waffles, brownies. cookies, hot and cold drinks and you can buy the jar desserts originally sold at the bakery as well. It serves almost the entire menu of YSC including old favorites like Lady in Red, Go Bananas!, Smoked Chicken Waffle and Red Velvet Milkshake, with the exclusion of the pancakes (can we have them back, please?) and a few scrumptious additions. A much welcome addition is their all day breakfast menu, which is enticing enough for you to actually want it all day!

Butter is currently operating at a soft launch phase and stays open from 03:00 pm to 09:00 pm everyday. A meal at Butter would cost around ৳350 — ৳600 per person. Irrespective of whether you’re a part of the YSC band or you’ve never been there in your life, you can give Butter a try; there’s something for everyone.
