Goodbye, old friend. (Neat logo though!).

When we first launched the Harry’s Engineering Blog back in October of 2013, it was a custom Jekyll application hosted with GitHub Pages. As of today, we’re relaunching our blog, this time on Medium 🎉.

Although we were still adding content to it, we had begun to feel the pain of hosting a blog ourselves. The original blog’s design hadn’t been updated since it was initially launched, and it had never been made responsive. The articles were almost impossible to read on mobile devices.

We ran our article review and publishing processes through GitHub, which mirrored our process for deploying code. While GitHub worked fairly well for these purposes, our overall publishing flow left something to be desired.

One of the downsides of our previous approach was that it required the author to get the Jekyll app up and running on their local machine in order to preview their article. This created unnecessary barriers to publishing, and decreased potential contributions from our team.

Migrating to Medium allowed us to address the issues of site design and publishing flow in an simple and hands-off way. The SEO benefits that come with Medium’s domain are another benefit, and Medium’s import tool made the whole process relatively painless.

Stay tuned for newer and more frequent content; this just the beginning of the New™ ️Harry’s Engineering Blog.

Happy grooming, and as always, we’re hiring!
