John Hughes’ cult classic comedy Planes, Trains and Automobiles, for many Americans, has become traditional viewing on Thanksgiving Day in the same way Bob Clark’s A Christmas Story is for Christmas Day. Planes, Trains and Automobiles, starring Steve Martin and John Candy, revolves around the characters Neal Paige and Del Griffith as they make their way from New York to Chicago.
Neal Paige, played by Martin, is only looking to get home so that he can spend Thanksgiving Day with his family. Candy’s Del Griffith, despite being somewhat well-meaning, is more than a little annoying. The two characters, nothing alike, respectively work as a marketing executive and a shower curtain ring salesman. Did anyone else know there was such a thing as a shower curtain ring salesman?
The two men, when their flight is diverted away from the planned destination, soon become travel companions. Neal and Del, with a journey spanning three days, experience a hilarious…
