Trump and Fox News fail in understanding distinction between the Office of the Presidency and being President
Does anyone find it interesting President Donald J. Trump failed to recognise what golfer Tiger Woods said? While it is interesting, it is not entirely unsurprising. Woods speaks of respecting the office of the presidency.
Trump doesn’t seem to understand the distinction between the office of the presidency and the president. It is possible to respect the former but not the latter. The office is not the same as the president.
This point is clear when Woods said, “Well, [Trump is] the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”
The only people that don’t seem to get Woods was not referring to the president when he was speaking of respecting the office seem to be Trump and his supporters. Fox News doesn’t seem to have understood the distinction either.
We know this because of the headline the right-wing media outlet ran with: “Trump: Tiger Woods showed ‘great class,’ now the left is ‘angry’.”
Fox & Friends hosts quintessentially illustrated their ignorance when openly attacked ESPN for the article the sports network ran on the story.
While the Trump may have thrown his “unabashed support behind” the golfer, the president’s lack of comprehension is readily-apparent.
Trump understands neither the position he holds as president of these United States nor what the office of the president means. With Trump only picking up his so-called news from Fox, that’s not surprising.
