We live in an age where sustainable packaging is in, and plastic is out. You have probably noticed the slow take over of sustainable packaging whether it be in your local supermarket or cafe. Or like many of us, you have experienced the troubles that come with using a paper straw.

But how are we meant to dispose of this packaging? What is the difference between compostable and biodegradable? The marketing around these products is vague enough to leave anyone confused. A few months ago I was lucky enough to host a panel with Ben Holden the marketing consultant for Koepala Packaging. Koepala focuses on developing innovative packaging solutions for takeaway food.

I first met Ben at one of YFood’s event back in London. I was amazed when he wiped out this small pink square which I later found out was a flat-packed form of biodegradable packaging. Despite the amazement, I was still skeptical. There is sadly a lot of greenwashing in this space.
