Skip Bayless was back at it again on Twitter this past week — inventing narratives, taking shots at great teams and players, and cookin’ up hot takes to keep everyone warm this winter. Appreciate it Skip!!!

Don’t be a prisoner of the moment like Skip — Lamar Jackson won the Heisman weeks ago. He is by far the best player in college football and he has the best stats. He has to win the Heisman. Period.

In honor of Skip’s love affair with Tim Tebow, let’s compare Jackson’s season to Tebow’s Heisman Trophy-winning season:

Tebow ’07: 13 games (9–4)/3,286 passing yards/895 rushing yards/55 total TDs

Jackson ’16: 12 games (9–3)/3,390 passing yards/1,538 rushing yards/51 total TDs

Jackson has more passing and rushing yards and only 4 fewer TDs than Tebow did in his Heisman season. Jackson still hasn’t played his bowl game either. Considering he’s averaging over 4 TDs a game, there’s a very good chance Jackson ties or has more TDs than ’07 Tebow. Lamar Jackson is this year’s Heisman — anyone who thinks differently is being unreasonable.

Hot Take 101, Lesson 2: When you can’t make a hot take, give a back-handed compliment.

Through 20 games, Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double while putting up 31ppg — a/k/a he’s on pace for the most impressive statistical season since Wilt Chamberlain averaged 50p/26r/12women a night in the 1961–62 season. Tough to hate on Russ right now — unless you’re Skip Bayless. You might be good Russ, but Skip sees right through your stat-chasing ways.

Again, where is this narrative coming from? Who are these doubters Skip’s been referring to? Not ESPN.com. Not NFL.com. Not CBSSports.com. Not USAToday.com. Not SportsIllustrated.com. In fact, I cannot find a single publication that doesn’t rank the Cowboys #1 in its Power Rankings.

(ESPN)

‘Bama completed their perfect season by winning the SEC Title game 54–16; they had 5 offensive TDs; 1 punt return for a TD; 1 INT return for a TD; 0 turnovers; forced 3 turnovers on defense; and, most unimpressively . . .

(ESPN)

gave up a total of 0 rushing yards on 30 attempts!!! The longest run Florida had was 7 yards!!! Skip has a point though — tough to be THAT impressed with Alabama.

When you Google “Tom Brady without Gronk”, here’s the title of the first article that shows up: Without Rob Gronkowski, Tom Brady is basically Ryan Fitzpatrick. I’ll leave it at that.

Bonus: Pat’s takes from a great weekend in sports

  • Houston Rockets forward Montrezl (pronounced “MON-TREZ”) Harrell is the best dunker in the NBA who has a silent “L” in his name.
(youtube/ESPN/NBA)
  • Despite making the whitest play in NBA history earlier this season (below), Sam Dekker is actually a solid NBA player.
(youtube/NBA)
  • Kentucky PG De’Aaron Fox is a slightly less polished, lefty version of John Wall. He and Malik Monk are studs. Isaiah Briscoe? Not so much. UK will be just fine.
  • UCLA looks like a Final Four-caliber team — they’re very balanced and have a good mix of upperclassmen and talented youngsters. The most talented of them — Lonzo Ball — has a chance to be special if he looks for his own shot around the basket more often.
  • Hey Penn State fans — just chill out. Did you really want to go lose to Alabama by 40???
  • Blake Bortles has more pick-sixes (11) than wins (10) in his career (props to Jake Sinsheimer for that stat). His most recent was one of the worst passes in NFL history — Johnny Manziel makes better decisions at 3 a.m. on weekends than Bortles did right there.
(youtube/NBC)
  • And finally, speaking of Johnny Football, congrats to the Browns on their best week since Johnny led them to a win in Week 14 . . . last SZN.
