Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning got off to a rough start with the fear of machines outrunning human workers and the loss of jobs. While the ecosystem has matured, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to identify concepts and implementations which need more regulatory oversight.

The Niti Aayog released a discussion paper on the national strategy for Artificial Intelligence, which details the current developments, focus areas for AI intervention, and the way forward for AI including ethics, privacy, and security. If you haven’t read it, it’s a good roadmap to work on, if you’re buiding AI products in India.

This year at Anthill Inside, we’re looking at the technical developments in this space from two broad perspectives. Academics like Prof Ravindran from IIT Madras and Prof. Battacharyya from IIT Patna will be talking about Reinforcement learning and the analysis and generation of sentiments and emotions by computers, and practitioners like Vijay Gabale and Lavanya TS talking about Learning Real time object detection in the absence of large-scale datasets and product size recommendation for fashion e-commercerespectively.Further, Shailesh Kumar, Chief Data Scientist at Jio, will deliver a keynote at Anthill Inside on AI for India.

Is there an elephant in the room? Are there several elephants in the room?

We are told that one such elephant is linear regression. You think you know everything there is to know about linear regression. Data scientist Chris Stucchio argues to the contrary. If you have highly correlated input data, non-normal errors, domain knowledge exceeding input data, or other common problems, Chris suggests you may need custom hack tools to aid you with linear regression.
