This week we saw a lot of AR announcements with Apple going full throttle with ARKit and Google launching ARCore. As someone who once had to almost return a sofa set just because I miscalculated the length by a couple of inches, I’m pretty excited that Ikea is working on this!
In other news, Google is coming up with “parking difficulty” icons on Google Maps. Having second thoughts on taking out your car to Commercial Street in Bangalore on a Saturday evening? You’ll soon be able to reassure yourself that’s a bad decision by looking at the parking difficulty sign on Google Maps.

Fragments meetup in Chennai on Saturday
People in Chennai, ICYMI, we’ve confirmed two talks for the Fragments meetup on Saturday.
- Mario Stallone will talk about “Engineering for Good Design”. In this talk, Mario will share his experience, and how he has learned to empathize and work more closely with designers and product managers.
- Girish Koundinya from Freshworks, will give us some insights into their journey towards cross platform development. Girish will deep dive on how to conduct a trade study to pick a technical solution that suits business and engineering needs & building tools to equip a team to try cross platform development.

Computer vision in e-commerce meetup on 9th September
On 9th September, we’re putting together a meetup at @WalmartLabs to discuss about the application of computer vision in e-commerce. One of the key areas in which computer vision is currently used in e-commerce is in “fashion”. Our speakers will walk us through some of the applications and use cases of the same.
If you’d like to get a sense of the applications of computer vision in e-commerce and interact with practitioners from the industry, this is a great place to be. RSVP now to reserve your spot!

Open House on Blockchain: Policy and future roadmap
Blockchain is indeed the newest kid on the block. Everyone is talking about it, so why not us!
On 22nd September, Sunil Aggarwal, author of the book ‘Bitcoin Magnet’, will provoke a discussion on the political theory of Blockchains.
