Open House on astronomical instruments🚀, Data science bootcamps, and confirmed talks at JSFoo & ReactFoo
The HasGeek Newsletter ✉️ — August 9
Hi there! 👋🏻
Today I learned that Amazon quietly owns a bunch of brands which sell their products exclusively on Amazon. Yeah..it’s not just Amazon Basics. I felt like my whole life was a lie. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On a totally unrelated note, if someone asks you what’s the most watched YouTube video, the answer isn’t Gangnam Style anymore. It’s Despacito! Yes, Despacito just became the most-viewed YouTube video of all time. At this point, I’m too afraid to even admit that I haven’t watched the entire video.
What’s happening at our end?
We’ve confirmed a series of talks-
JSFoo:
- Tiny Computers, JavaScript and MIDI by George Mandis
George will talk about how tiny computers such as the Raspberry Pi are now at such level of performance that the age old MIDI protocol can work unexpected wonders with them. - Dark Art of Webpack Bundle Tuning by Vijay Dharap
While webpack continues to become more and more popular and de-facto choice of module bundling in an increasingly ES6 and ES7 centric world, its VERY easy to get lost in all the hoopla of getting the webpack to work. Vijay talks issues with Webpack and how to optimise it. - TypeScript all the things! by Prashant Tiwari
TypeScript can significantly improve your development experience with its incredible tooling and refactoring support. It can help you catch bugs as you type and bring sanity to managing large codebases. Prashant will delve into all the unknown and useful features TypeScript offers.
ReactFoo:
- The Road to Styled Components, and the Road Ahead by Glen Maddern
Glen’s talk will cover how the design goals of styled-components have helped it become the most popular alternative for CSS-in-JS. It will also look at the progression from documents, through components, to an inclusive, unified workflow for UI on the web and elsewhere.
