We started droidconIN back in 2011, which makes last year’s edition the sixth year!
(That’s Ice Cream Sandwich to Nougat for those who are following)

A lot has changed in the Android and mobile app ecosystem since then, but droidconIN really hasn’t. We want to sit down and talk to developers and reevaluate how we approach the mobile dev domain this year. We’d like to hear about the kind of issues you are facing in mobile dev, and what you’d like to see at a mobile developer conference.

So drop by this Friday for our open house. It’s a informal, open discussion on(but not limited to) the following broad questions:

Do we still do an Android-only conference?

Is there value in bringing people across Android, iOS and mobile web together?

With the surge in cross platform frameworks like React and Xamarin, and the push for cross platform parity in features and design, how much collaboration happens between platform-specific mobile dev teams?

As an Android developer, will you feel alienated (or out of place) as a conference that covers iOS as well?

How do modern mobile dev teams in organizations work?

Given the increasing importance of being mobile-first or app-only, what structures and processes do teams follow within organizations?

How much collaboration, knowledge sharing and decision making is done across teams?

What are the current challenges in mobile dev?

Where do you pain points lie? At last year’s droidconIN, we focused mostly on core Android development topics, with talks on RxJava, Kotlin, Constraint Layouts, LayoutInflators and so on.

Should we move on to higher level problems like team structures and achieving feature/design parity? Maybe treat something like Notifications as a whole problem space in itself?

What about the mobile web?

With Google’s aggressive push over the past year, there is a bit lot of interest in Progressive Web Apps, but how much of this is genuine and how much is fluff that won’t ever take off? Is that worth discussing?

These are largely the topics we have in mind though I expect the discussion to take its own direction once we get started.

If you are an Android, iOS or mobile web developer (or know someone who is), please do drop by! We will be basing this year’s conference on what we discuss on Friday.

It’s from 7m onwards, this Friday at our office in Indiranagar.

Look forward to seeing you there!
