HashHub released “Lightning on Azure,” a tool to deploy Lightning Network compatible server on Microsoft Azure
HashHub has unveiled “Lightning on Azure,” which makes deployment of Lightning Network compatible server on Azure possible on Azure Marketplace. Lightning Network is the latest second-layer technology for Bitcoin.
Trends in Bitcoin settlement using Lightning Network
There has been increasingly more attention on bitcoin and blockchain technology. However, a seamless payment experience which is free from high transaction fees and scalability issues has not yet emerged.
Under such circumstances, “Lightning Network” is the technology which is receiving wide attention. It is an emergent protocol on Bitcoin’s second layer, with expectation of inexpensive, boarder-less, and near real-time Bitcoin settlement on the horizon.
A Settlement Environment Utilizing Open Source Payment Processor “BTCPayServer”
“Lightning on Azure” is based on “BTCPayServer” which was developed by Nicolas Dorier as Open Source Software. Nocolas is a Bitcoin Core developer who also works at DG Lab operated by Digital Garage, Inc.
BTCPayServer is an open source project that makes it easy for anyone to introduce a payment system using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Also, BTCPayserver already supports Lightning Network payments which is likely to gain popularity as a settlement method.
HashHub has made improvements to BTCPayServer for wider adaption of Lightning Network, and provides as Lightning Network settlement and development solution on Azure Marketplace.
Use Cases beyond Settlements
Also development of applications called Lapps (Lightning Application) which is embedded Bitcoin micropayment for Lightning Network has kicked off beyond just stores and E-commerce settlements. More specifically, they may include new types of applications taking advantage of 2-way micropayment with Bitcoin of less than a cent, micro-billing to an API, and high-speed distributed transaction between cryptocurrencies in the second layer.
There are many blockchain-related services published on Azure Marketplace already, but with the release of “Lightning on Azure”, it will likely fuel more and more application development on Bitcoin’s second layer utilizing Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.
