HashKey Group to Support EtherPOAP’s Community Events to Commemorate the Ethereum Merge
Hong Kong, September 9 2022 — HashKey Group has announced a strategic partnership with EtherPOAP, a series of community events established by a group of enthusiastic supporters of the Ethereum ecosystem and incubated by IPrinter DAO to commemorate the historic Merge event.
As a key partner and sponsor of EtherPOAP, HashKey Group will help facilitate its events and community activities to celebrate the Ethereum Merge and its subsequent protocol upgrades. One of such events is a free mint programme of a Proof-of-Attendance Protocol (POAP) badge, a special class of ERC-721 NFTs designed as tamper-proof digital mementos, which can become a permanent part of a user’s decentralised identifier (DID). Future EtherPOAP events are expected to feature concepts including NFT value, DAO governance and decentralised identities.
EtherPOAP: Commemorating the birth and the Merge of Ethereum
It has been eight years since Vitalik Buterin first introduced Ethereum to the world at the Bitcoin Conference in Miami, USA in 2014. During this time, the rapid growth of the Ethereum and its surrounding ecosystem is palpable, as blockchain and digital assets enthusiasts in the space have collectively experienced and witnessed how the network and its community have evolved and developed over the years.
The story of Ethereum began with the launch of its genesis block, as a result of a 42-day Bitcoin crowdfunding event in July 2014. There were a total of 31,531 Bitcoins raised during the crowdfunding round, which translates to US$18.43 million, making it the second largest crowdfunding project at that time. The crowdfunding address received a total of 8947 transactions from 8893 unique addresses. The participation of these 8893 addresses kickstarted the Ethereum project, laying the foundation for what would become the world’s most widely used blockchain smart contract platform.
Since its launch, Ethereum has carried out major network and protocol upgrades such as “Byzantium” (2017), “Constantinople” (2019), “St. Petersburg” (2019), “Istanbul” (2019) and most recently the Berlin (2021) and London (2021) hard fork upgrades. The Merge, which signals Ethereum’s full transition from the Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, is expected to be completed in 13–15 September 2022.
This initiative would bring together the most talented developers in the blockchain industry. The EtherPOAP event would also airdrop the NFTs to all 8893 addresses that have participated in the original Ethereum genesis block crowdfunding to acknowledge the contributions of these founding “pioneers” of the Ethereum network, forever stamping their participation in Ethereum in the form of an NFT digital memorabilia that is the EtherPOAP badge.
