Hong Kong, March 27, 2023 — Virtual assets are an important part of the Web3 ecosystem and a highly anticipated new asset class. After a tumultuous 2022, what will be the future development of virtual assets? On the afternoon of April 12, the Hong Kong Web3 Festival 2023 will host a special session on “What’s Next for Virtual Assets,” inviting industry experts and well-known financial professionals to engage in dialogue and exchange to deeply explore the hot topics of TradFi, CeFi, DeFi, stablecoins, and trends and prospects for the future development of virtual assets.

Despite crises and challenges that have arisen over the past year in virtual asset exchanges, casting a shadow over the industry’s path of development, the Web3 technology that underlies it offers the characteristics of decentralisation, disintermediation, security, transparency, and low cost, which, if used appropriately, will trigger a lot of innovative models and help solve pain points in multiple areas such as finance, trading, and business operations. The Hong Kong SAR Government also issued a policy statement on the development of virtual assets in Hong Kong on October 31, 2022, holding an open and inclusive attitude towards global innovators engaged in virtual asset businesses.

The Importance of Virtual Assets

At the “What’s Next for Virtual Assets” session, early explorer in the blockchain industry, the Chairman and CEO of Wanxiang Blockchain, Chairman of HashKey Group, Dr. XIAO Feng, will share his profound insights into the development of virtual assets.

As the wave of Web3 approaches, how can TradFi leverage this emerging force to achieve innovation and change? Representatives from traditional financial institutions and emerging technology companies, such as Joy Lam, Partner at Baker McKenzie, Lily Z. King, Chief Operating Officer of Cobo, Phillip Gillespie, Managing Partner at AWR Capital, Luc Froehlich, Global Head of Digital Asset Solutions at Fidelity, and Jehan Chu, Founder of Kenetic, Harry Man, Partner at Matrix Partners China will exchange ideas and create solutions in the panel discussion entitled “The Intersection between TradFi and Crypto/Blockchain.”

The Potential of CeFi and DeFi

Anthony Sar, Co-founder & CEO of Finoverse, Lennix Lai, Managing Director of Global Institutional Business at OKX, Chris Yu, Co-founder and CEO of SignalPlus, Ben El Baz, Head of Ecosystems at HashKey Group, Lawrence Chu, Co-Founder and Chairman of VSFG, and Teong Hng, Co-founder and CEO of Satori Research, will discuss the past, present, and future of the CeFi landscape, and how to find opportunities in this constantly changing market.

In the realm of virtual assets, stablecoins are an indispensable key element. Representatives from renowned financial institutions, including Clara Chiu, CEO of Qreg Advisory, Joao Reginatto, VP of Product at Circle, and Ms. Connie Cheung, Chief Product Officer of RD Technologies, as well as executives from J.P. Morgan, will explore the origin and essential elements of stablecoins in-depth.

CeFi and DeFi are among the most exciting developments in the realm of virtual assets in recent years, and they are often compared and discussed extensively. Who will be the ultimate winner: CeFi or DeFi? Or can they merge with each other? In the roundtable discussion titled “Product Innovation: CeFi vs DeFi,” distinguished guests such as Matt Long, the Asia-Pacific General Manager of FalconX, Henry Zhang, the Founder and CEO of DigiFT, Dovey Wan, Advisor of GMX, Gleb Kostarev, Regional Head of Asia at Binance, and Moses Lee, Executive Director of Asia at Anchorage, will share and discuss the innovative possibilities and future prospects of both CeFi and DeFi.

Stablecoins and Web3 Evolution

Every evolution of the internet paradigm, from Web1 to the current dominant Web3, will bring about a change in social patterns. Guests such as CAI Wensheng, Chairman of Meitu and angel investor, FENG Bo, Founder of Dragonfly.xyz, and ZENG Ming, former Chief Strategy Officer of Alibaba, will explore the opportunities and challenges for society, enterprises, and individuals in the revolution from Web1 to Web3.

After the black swan event in 2022, where will CeFi go moving forward? In the final segment of the “What’s Next for Virtual Assets” session, HashKey Capital CEO Deng Chao will engage in a deep conversation with Binance Founder and CEO Zhao Changpeng CZ (participating virtually) to explore the future development of CeFi.

The appeal of virtual assets to global investors and their recognition in financial innovation are increasing day by day. Coupled with the opportunities brought about by virtual assets entering the Web 3.0 and Metaverse fields, they have become indispensable in the market. Where does the future development of virtual assets lie? Perhaps a glimpse can be seen in the “What’s Next for Virtual Assets” session at the Hong Kong Web3 Festival 2023, where many distinguished guests will gather.
