Android Developer Nanodegree helps José Nieto pursue his passion for coding

After receiving his Masters degree in Organic Chemistry in Spain, José took a job as a Java Developer and soon moved into project management. Four years later and he found himself jobless (along with many at the same firm.)

Uncomfortable with project management, José decided to move to London to focus on programming. Working in coffee shops and coding in his spare time, he discovered a passion for Android development.

“When I started to build my first, very simple apps, I discovered a complete new world of possibilities. As an Android Developer I would have the opportunity to create apps that could massively impact people’s lives.”

When Udacity announced the Android Developer Nanodegree programme, he saw the perfect opportunity to pursue a career in Android. During the course, José found the focus on practical skills a big plus, and he valued the expert reviews and personalised feedback he gets along the way.

“If you take the Nanodegree programme, you can expect to build the skills you need to get a job in the field; the focus on employability is a massive difference.”

Studying for the Nanodegree helped José obtain a three-month internship at start-up RiteTag, where he was given key responsibilities and was soon leading the Android team of seven other interns.

After the course, José’s new skills and experience helped him secure a permanent Android Developer role at IDscan Biometrics.

“Everything I learnt through the Nanodegree program helped me compete with candidates with much more experience,” says José. “I don’t think there is a single Android recruiter out there who doesn’t know about Udacity’s Nanodegree programmes. It’s helped me find a job in a field I’m really happy about.”

“If you enroll in the Android Developer Nanodegree programme, you can expect to build the skills you need to get a job in the field; the focus on employability is a massive difference.”
