Hashtags

For a long time I was using just the most popular hastags which are proposed by couple applications out there. And that was a mistake. So what is the right way to to grow your audience at the first days?

If you are only starting your Instagram journey, and looking how to get more eyes on your account, you definitely should look into big accounts. But not any big accounts, but those who are looking for a great content to add to their feeds and thus promoting your photos to a great amount of people.

Due to limits on Instagram, you can only put 30 hashtags to the description of your photo, which sometimes is not enough, but perfect for growing accounts. However there is one more extra feature you can utilize to increase the number of those accounts you wish to reach out to with your photo.

Tagging

On top of adding description and place to your photo, you can tag people on it. But for the most photographers it is a wonderful way to mention community accounts, so they would be willing to take a look and potentially feature your photo or video.

So what is the proper way to tag those accounts? Well, there are not too much options. You simply enter the proper username of the account and place the small plate on the picture. What I like to do is to things:

  1. Not overcrowd main element of the picture, so try to put those plates around the object.
  2. Try to sparse out the plates, so that all accounts are actually clickable. Community will appreciate it and will consider you more over others.

Bonus Tip

So as a sum up of those two points you can reach out to 50 accounts instead of just 30. Be sure, if you mention some account in a hashtag, try not to duplicate it in a tag. That way you have a chance to get more even more exposure.

I hope you’ve found this article helpful, and if so, please follow Hashtag Project. I will be putting up lists of those community accounts based on Cities and Topics. That way you won’t need to spend time on boring research, and could simply look everything up, at this medium publication account. You will be able to add proper hashtags to descriptions and tag neccessary acounts to your content in matter of seconds.
