Chowing Down on the Big Apple

Things haven’t slowed down in New York (but pleased to report that the blisters have healed!) If Week 1 was finding my feet here, this last one was sinking my teeth into all this city has to offer.

Consuming EVERYTHING has been a real theme. In terms of art, I’ve seen works by Brancusi and Picasso at the Guggenheim and caught the Sarah Lucas exhibition at the New Museum. Food-wise it’s been the American dream: fried chicken & maple syrup on pancakes, pretzels, bagels and pizza. There is so much going on, and within the agency it’s been the same.

Experiencing Halloween at Havas NYC was madness. An entire floor of the Village was transformed, each meeting room with a unique theme. You could eat in Satan’s dining room, have pictures taken in a vintage photobooth, get your fortune told by a tarot card reader or step into heaven (with everything edible from walls of donuts to cotton-candy clouds.) In the main party room a live DJ blasted music and the bar was stocked from 1pm! The place was completely unrecognisable, as well as all the people in it! Serious effort went into the costumes, which were then judged in a competition. I was brushing shoulders with the stuff of nightmares: Peaky Blinders, Plastic Straws and 3rd Party Data.

The speed in which this extravagant world was created and dismantled was a testament to my experience in this city. This place is like a treadmill of opportunities, if your eyes are open to see them. It’s hard to believe it’s been 7 days since the last blog post, things move quickly. So quickly I started the week 25 and now I’m a year older! I expect the next week will go just as fast, but I can’t wait to find out what will happen next.
