Different cities inside one city

Before coming to Toronto I was reading about the city and one thing which surprised me is that in most of the posts, there was one common concept to describe Toronto: Different cities inside one city.

First of all, I didn’t know what this meant. After 2 weeks here I already can assure you that this is totally true. You could walk for 30 minutes around the city and get lost in different experiences: having a wonderful tofu soup in the Korean market, dancing crazy during the night in the entertainment district, enjoying the diversity of Kensington Market with its vintage clothing stores, feeling small beside big skyscrapers in the Financial District, buying fruit at a cheap price in Chinatown… all of them quite different but feeling like one. This is the power of Toronto. There may be different surroundings, each wirth their own particularities, but it feels like one single city.

And the funny thing is that this description of the city could also be used to describe my already loved Havas office in Toronto. Here you have different agencies with their own personality, but in the end — they are one.

And Plastic Mobile, with its marvelous innovation lab where all the dreams may come true — thanks to technology.

All different, but together becoming one.

I could see one example of this on my first few days at the office while experiencing a creative pitch for one of the brands managed already by Havas Media, Sephora. A good opportunity to integrate all the media and creative expertise within Havas. For this challenging brief, this meant both media and creative agencies sitting together to reach the best approach possible. Having Havas Media (who knows the client), Havas Worldwide, and Plastic Mobile in the same boardroom made for a truly collaborative meeting. Previously, there had been a great brainstorm after a visit of different teams to Sephora stores to know more about the client. A bunch of ideas floating around, and everyone trying to catch the right ONE. I still don’t know what it will come to because it is still underway, but I am sure that from this union of different teams and specialties that a wonderful idea is sure to come of it!
