In my first few days in the Lofts program hosted in Paris, I have already learned so much about the different teams and companies that fall under the Vivendi family.

The most interesting learning was that of a company named Dailymotion. Dailymotion is a video-sharing platform, much like YouTube. With 3 billion video views a month, 300 million unique visitors and 150 million videos in their category, Dailymotion’s slogan of “Home for videos that matter” really holds true. Beginning in 2005, Dailymotion has grown tremendously once added to the Vivendi portfolio. With a user interface overhaul and a few tweaks to their embedded videos, Dailymotion has been able to scale and expand to growth opportunity markets.

While Dailymotion’s sleek ads and updated interface was very impressive, it was the company culture that made me take a step back. Speaking with one of the “Tribe” leaders and walking around the office, it was simple to see how passionate each person was about their job. Everyone was joking around with each other and laughing not as if they were just co-workers, but friends. From the engineers to HR to the sales team, everyone greeted us with a smile on their face. Everyone at the company spoke about each department in the highest regards, truly understanding the importance of each person’s role and how they make a positive impact on the company. One of employees stated how they no longer dread going to work on Monday, but are excited to come into the office. All of the employees at Dailymotion are truly happy to be there.

The company holds monthly themed parties where a department chooses the theme, decoration and drinks. The office was decorated with past themed parties from the World Cup to a USA Beer Pong theme, which I laughed at and appreciated the good fun. While I was at the office, the theme was “Halloween on the Beach”. My first thought was, “That isn’t even a theme”, followed by “Wow, that is very creative”. Walking downstairs to the party, I was pleasantly surprised to see spiderwebs on all the computers playing horror films in the background and the bar decorated with palm trees draped in webs next to the “spooky” drinks of mojito and “human blood”. This company is filled with creative, innovative employees.

From the atmosphere and the employees at Dailymotion, it was clear to see how dedicated, hardworking and enthusiastic everyone is and the importance of company culture.
