BETC PARIS // DAY 1 — Nanu nanu!

So, it’s Monday morning and i’ve been in Paris for approximatly 48hrs. Apart from the quick realisation that you should never trust pedestrian crossings everything seems to be going swimmingly.

As today is the first day, I thought to myself…

“Jon, make a good impression and turn up early!”.

I can officially say that this has been my first mistake. Whilst having a morning coffee (when in Rome…pictured below) I emailed my contact. It wasn’t until I was sat in the foyer that she emailed back to inform me the agency doesn’t wake up that early on a Monday.

Important note:
A bad French coffee is far better than a great English coffee!

Wow — she wasn’t joking! Some readers at this point may be thinking….WTF! It’s agency life. However, this is a stark change to my normal Mondays. Back in the UK we are normally enticed out of bed after our weekends by the lure of FREE breakfast in the morning which generally means people arrive at 09.00am.

After a while I sit down with my coach Annick Teboul and she gives me a general introduction to BETC life. These are as follows:

1: Self Management, you are expected to self manage your time — you are the judge of your work and you are responsible for it (I like this concept).

2: Thus, you can arrive and leave at your leisure (again, I like this concept).

3: The agency is never locked…therefore if you prefer working late or early, the doors are always open (could this get any better?).

In comparision to my home agency point 1 is same, points 2 & 3 are similar-ish. I guess what I’m trying to get at is that I’m unsure if its a cultral thing or just breed into the UK working habbits that everyday has to start between 08.00am — 09.00am (apart from summer time when Sunny Fridays and Lazy mondays are available).

In any case, this is just a first impression of a Monday morning at the start of a months stay! And if people are wondering why the title is “Mork calling Mindy”, it’s the best way I can descibe that last 48hrs, see below:
