SG to Chicago, start of an adventure!

Quick intro:
I’m Chuang Chin Tuan, Media Manager @ Havas Media Asia Pacific (SG). Please don’t try to pronounce the name, just call me Chin.

Lets start!

When you think of adventure, you think of thrills, and nothing’s more thrilling than not having your name on the flight 15 mins before the check-in counter closes.
(True story)

Ha ha! Thank goodness I didn’t miss my flight, but beyond that everything else about the first week in Chicago was great!

Accommodation. I’ve got a sweet accommodation, a sexy bachelor’s pad that’s probably the envy of all single guys. Well except those who cook because the bed’s next to the stove.

Marque @ Blk 37. Nice, yes?

And talk about convenient! (a) There was a direct train from the airport, (b) the train station leads directly to the mall connected to my apartment, (c) and the apartment building is a 10min walk from Havas Chicago.

Thank you Havas!

‘Thank you very much’

What’s jet lag? I’m not being cocky, I just have the ability to sleep any where, any time, and at any place. So arriving in Chicago at 8.30pm was the perfect opportunity for me to immediately overcome jet lag.

#notcocky

Priorities. I spent my weekend covering a few crucial tasks. (a) Visited the most talked about attraction in Chicago. The Bean!

Not this Bean.

#originalbean

THIS Bean!
There were so many people so I did what I did best. Stand out.

Cloud Gate @ Millennium Park

(b) Visited the nearest Crossfit gym

(c) Visited Nike’s Flagship store, and bought 2 pairs of beautiful white sneakers.

Glimpse of the beautiful Nike store
Nike Free
Nike Metcon 4

(d) Caught Han Solo the movie, in style.

First day in Havas Chicago. My heart was filled with nothing but excitement. Nothing! Not even blood. Ok I exaggerate, but the office exceeded all expectations, it was filled with such overwhelming awesomeness I couldn’t take any pictures of myself because my mouth was literally opened in awe the whole time.

On my way to Havas Chicago!
Beautifully chill reception area
Orientation with the other new hires + Lofters

Where are the other awesomeness you ask? We’ll I’m saving them for my Havas IG takeover on 8 June’18 :D

Check out the Havas Lofts highlights from the Havas IG page!

My host Team. Meet my Havas family for my stay in Havas Chicago. You might be wondering how are they. Well, my mentor (Michelle) gave me a big welcome hug when I arrived, I was greeted with THIS at my desk!

And we had an awesome alfresco lunch with the rest of the ladies to get to know everyone better.

And here’s a team pic at my first EVER baseball game!

(Lucky guy, surrounded by ladies)

My learning schedule. During the initial skype call with Michelle I shared I wanted to learn how the Chicago office does their media planning. Well, she went all out! I’m meeting with literally every possible specialist group in the office. Digital strategy, Creative Strategy, Media Strategy, Social Media, Programmatic, Analytics, DMP, Account Management, Project Management, Vendor updates, and I even have 2 presentations, 1 to share about my home agency and 1 to recap my learnings during the month.

Its like compressing a management trainee course into 1 month! Which is great!

Now put all the first letters of each paragraph together and you form the word ‘Adventure’.

Ok no, I’m sorry, I’m kidding. You’re not going to form the word ‘Adventure’, but everything that’s lined up for me is definitely going to be quite an amazing experience don’t you think!

Thanks for reading, more fun and serious stuff coming up!
