This is the rally cry of the week for the New Business & Marketing team here in London.

One thing I’d like to keep in mind is what my coach, Tracey Barber, said about New Business: “It’s the most interesting job in the agency! Really!” What a promise! And she is right on so many points because we, as the New Business team, bring the business to the strategist, to the creative people, to the account managers, and we run it with only one purpose: to win more and more budgets.

New Business’ mantra ;)

The last ten days were pretty crazy. So many things are in the pipeline which represents a real source of excitement, but in the same time there’s a huge amount of work to assume.

Me after 10 days…

…Because New Business means never stop working! You’re always connected — to the coming pitches, to the current pitches, to the different teams, to the CEO…And that’s why it’s so important to share any information. The more knowledge the New Business team has, the better they can do. Every detail matters and could make the difference from our competitors.

For those who are beginners with the pitch process (Me? Seriously, I get 10 days of experience, so I am now an expert), here are the different steps:

  • Written submission — not a tick-box exercise but a moment of excitement! An RFI (request for information) could be a piece of art.
  • Chemistry meeting — release and listen.
  • Tissue session— between the pitch briefing and pitch day to provide an opportunity for the agency to talk the client through their thinking so far, before embarking on any creative, research or production.
  • Pitch — WIN WIN WIN!

And what about London?

The transformation has begun…It’s now cold in London, British girls still wear open-toed shoes and go out sometimes in t-shirts (ok everything is under control) and a French girl takes some risks by not always wearing a scarf (crazy me!). No need to go in depth about advantages of eating at 6:30 pm ;)

Over all, I’ve adapted to their sarcastic sense of humour…Or did I already have it before? That’s the question…
