So Far…So Near!

It’s true: Toronto is deeply multicultural, has hundred thousands of Italians living here and — like almost all of Canada — embraces the concept of “diversity”. Maybe it would depend by their ability to let you feel at home, anyway, after almost three weeks I’ve the perception to be already integrated in the culture.

As a Lofter, I’ve the opportunity to spend much time with local people and colleagues during mydaily routine. So I’ve been able to go over the traditional cliche that usually comes first when you’re abroad. Then, going around, I’ve almost noticed the same issues, worries and way of thinking we have at home.

Actually I’m pretty sure to say: we are so similar!

This week I had the opportunity to spend time with Ryan Paton, Group Account Director of Havas, discussing about Content, creativity and especially about the Village. We identified the same opportunities and relevance of this integration process. Here, they already started to approach this integration, working together from the early stages of a project and I think it is fundamental to be involved in the right way. He appreciated the idea of our local project “Village Crossing” — a sort of Havas Lofts — inside our building between Havas Media, Creative and the other specific areas of the agency.

For sure, one of the advantages for Havas Canada to approach a Together Vision is supported by their organization: creative and media are led by the same CEO and the total number of workers so far let’s everyone knowing each other.

As I already told in previous posts, the Media Office has plenty of new people, most of them young and full of energy. I think it’s one of the most important ‘fuel’ to let an agency grow: finding young talents with a huge desire of learning and who challenge themselves. It’s definitely interesting because, actually I’m in the same situation participating in the Havas Lofts Program. I’m here to catch all the opportunities from this experience: ways of working, tools or experiences.

Right now, we are involved in a interesting pitch that is giving me a full sight of how here we approach these kind of issues. From the start to finish.

The MAP process sets a sort of ‘standard’ of work so it helped me to participate actively in the deliverable of that pitch. I think it’s a great thing because even if we share different experiences and we are usually so far each other, we have a common framework that helps us to ‘speak the same language’ and be focused on the result.
