Havuta recently worked on a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program with an NGO in Mae Sot, Thailand. By providing a more efficient way for our partner to collect data on the impact of its program and incorporate those findings into their Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) efforts, Havuta helped the organization gather keener and more broadly gathered insights into its impact.

Data drives everything in the development sector. Data helps direct resources to where they are most needed and to organizations best equipped to deliver sustainable outcomes. The data Havuta was able to deliver provided our partner with actionable feedback on the outcomes their program produced for its beneficiaries.

Some Background on the Karen People

Mae Sot is in northwestern Thailand near its border with Myanmar. It is home to around 150,000 people and has a large Karen community. The Karen people mostly originate from the Karen (Kayin) and Kayah States in Myanmar, but there are approximately half a million Karen living in Thailand, primarily in the northwestern border regions.

The Karen people are among Thailand’s most vulnerable populations, with as many as 130,000 living in refugee camps along the border. The Karen people have severely restricted access to basic health and education services, as well as employment opportunities.

TVET an Effective Tool in Pursuit of The UN’s SDGs

Given those disadvantages the Karen community faces, they are vulnerable to becoming victims of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. TVET is a practical and effective tool for reducing inequalities, poverty, and for helping people sustain livelihoods in the face of marginalization and vulnerability.

The TVET program in Mae Sot directly addressed six of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (namely, 1, 3, 4, 8, 10, and 16). Havuta is proud to equip our partners with the tools they need to gain enhanced access to more impact data, using disruptive technologies to drive efficiencies and accountability.
