1. Name: Emma Evans

2. Current job title: Advanced Systems Lead

3. How long have you been at HEI? 4 years

4. What were your main responsibilities at the Euros?

During the Women’s Euros, I was the Hawk-Eye Unit Manager. This role involved managing the team of Hawk-Eye staff onsite, being the main point of contact with the stadiums, and ensuring all services are delivered and time constraints are met.

5. What were your personal highlights of the tournament?

I’ll never forget walking pitch-side after the game and listening to 87,000 people all celebrating the England Euros win! Also, seeing how much the whole country got behind the national team made it feel really special to be a part of it. The whole Hawk-Eye team onsite came together, everyone was getting stuck in and it created a really good and enjoyable work environment.

6. How do you think the Women’s Euros has impacted the women’s game?

I think the tournament really captured the imagination of the fans! Young girls were able to watch their role models on mainstream television, proving that they can participate in football whether that’s as a player, an official, in broadcasting or sports technology.

7. What do you love the most about your job?

The people at Hawk-Eye make the job so worthwhile. There are also lots of opportunities to travel and visit some of the best stadiums in the world. No day of work is the same, and no day is ever boring.

8. What sparked your interest in working in sports tech?

I have always been an inquisitive person and love fixing things so I knew I wanted to work in the engineering sector from quite a young age. Sports technology allows me to combine the engineering side with my love of sport.

9. What advice would you give to females looking to pursue a career in sports tech?

Do it, you won’t regret it. The satisfaction of being at a major sporting event knowing the technology is in use because of you is a feeling you never get bored of.

10. What advice would you give to anyone applying?

Hawk-Eye is a great company to work for. Throw yourself into it and you won’t look back. The football department provides opportunities to work at stadiums across the country and worldwide whilst enjoying football along the way. There are endless opportunities to learn new things as technology continues to evolve across the sporting world.
