College is the time to get healthy. During our time in college, the strain we put on our bodies is severe. From either being too stressed to function or drinking on the weekends, our bodies cannot seem to catch a break. A trend that has been becoming ever more popular are juice cleanses. Whether you are a health nut or just someone looking for a little healthier lifestyle this can apply to anyone.
Detox diets have become a trend over the past couple years. They are not only popular is celebrity states like New York and California. People everywhere are doing them and there can be health benefits that come along with these tasty trends.
These diets are not for everyone but most college students may agree their livers take a beating. Bars, clubs, and house parties are the weekend go to for some students and if your body is not taken care of properly there can be some serious health risks. A person’s liver acts as a filter, taking out the toxins in foods and alcohol before reaching the blood stream. According to CBSnews.com, “the goal of detox is to improve liver function, which will then lead to weight loss.” The article goes on to say that this detox could take up to eight weeks, which for some might sound terrifying. But fear not, there are super foods for your liver that can help detox your body without the long haul of an eight-week process. The Global Health Center notes these foods for being able to improve liver function. Garlic, grapefruit, beets, carrots, green tea, leafy green vegetables, avocados, apples, olive oil, alternative grains, broccoli, cauliflower, lemons, limes, walnuts, cabbage and turmeric. These foods can easily be eaten every day. Even for those who live on campus apples, carrots, and vegetables can usually be found in the dining halls or other eateries on campus. Doing a full cleanse may be hard for some, but taking care of your body is a must. We all only have one body so we must take care of it to the best of our ability.
