Love Your Melon Organization Promotes: Hats With a Purpose
Love Your Melon Plans to Put a Hat on the Head of Every Child Battling Cancer
When you think of your childhood what memories come back to you? You probably think about running around outside, or learning to ride a bike, or playing manhunt with your friends way past your bedtime. Sadly, not every child is fortunate enough to get the chance to have all of those memorable moments; some childhood memories will be doctor appointments, hospital visits, and chemo and radiation treatments.
Pediatric cancer unfortunately, will be apart of more than 40,000 children’s lives each year. However, this student organization is trying to help put a smile on the lives of those children affected by this horrible disease.
Love Your Melon- is a college run student apparel brand that sells hats, mugs, scarves and much more. The brand’s mission is to put a hat on the head of every child battling cancer. Love Your Melon’s organization is spread across over 700 campuses in the country, including right here at Montclair State University.
The Love Your Melon crew works hard to advertise new releases of products on social media platforms and spread the buzz of Love Your Melon across the campus to get as many hats bought from Montclair’s crew as possible.
Not only are they dedicated to trying to involve people in purchasing Love Your Melon merchandise, they are also helping to impact the lives of children.
Montclair Love Your Melon Captain Kaylee Caserta says, “We will make house and hospital visits in attempts try to distract them from what they’re going through, we do bring them hats but we also just enjoy doing fun activities with them help them to relieve stress.” To date, the Montclair State crew has participated in four hospital visits and three in home events. “It’s all about connections, since our campus is so big, there are so many people who have relatives or friends that are affected, so we try reach out to those people that are close to home.” says Caserta.
One of the most memorable visits that the crew had was last year with 6-month-old Jackson. Shannon Crehan, Vice Captain of Love Your Melon at MSU explains, “Jackson Walsh was diagnosed with neuroblastoma just went into remission at 5 months, his mother started a whole other foundation called ‘Jackson Strong’ helping raise money for families that have conditions similar to Jackson.” This allows for Love Your Melon to get involved in helping out with other organizations in the community.
Crehan says “The best part [being apart of Love Your Melon], is seeing the look on little kids’ faces when we’re giving them hats.” With every hat (or any item that is sold) that the organization sells, one is donated to a child battling cancer.
When purchasing a hat from LoveYourMelon.com, you’re able to select a crew that you want to support, from there each crew receives a credit for each purchase made. “When you pick us our crew receives a credit, and then we can reach different credit levels and this allows to do hospital visits and donation events that allow us to get to visit kids and help them out in their homes.”
All Love Your Melon beanies, and caps are made in America. The company works hard to create products that are soft and comfortable enough for a child’s head.
