Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is the second installment in his Batman trilogy had fans gliding into their seats, certainly living up to its expectations if not, exceeding them. Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger serves as the film’s lead actors as the timeless battle of Batman versus Joker is effortlessly captured in the movie.

Set a little after Nolan’s first film Batman Begins, Batman who just so happens to be billionaire Bruce Wayne (Bale) is dealing with organized crime syndicates all around the infamous city of Gotham. This is nothing new for Batman but, one sadistic crook will gain the attention of him sparking a battle that will be known all throughout Gotham.

The Joker, (Ledger) is the new merciless villain Nolan introduces causing the uproar and fear in Gotham. His various ways of getting what he wants certainly capture the psychotic side of The Joker we know, the deranged maniac ready to kill at any time. He has one goal set and won’t stop until he achieves it and of course Batman is directly involved.

Because of this, other things go left in the city as well. Besides Batman, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) becomes one of the main focuses of Gotham. Dent is a district attorney in the city who is responsible for putting majority of the most feared criminal group in Gotham the Falcone Gang in prison. Of course, this is noticed by The Joker and immediately makes Dent a target. This interaction will dramatically change the life of Dent in ways much unexpected (excluding DC lovers).

The climax of the movie is a series of events that centers in on Batman, The Joker, Dent, and the former lover of Bruce Wayne Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal). This scene adds fuel to the fire in the battle between the two main characters, as Batman is ready to go all out and defeat The Joker. Naturally, Joker isn’t going down without a fight, setting up his final plan to achieve his goal and the final battle between him and Batman.

Overall, Nolan delivers just what viewers and fans expected in a movie where Batman faces his most popular villain. In one of his final performances, Heath Ledger embodied the Joker from his cynical trademark laugh, right down to the facial expressions and the famous, nerve tingling “Why so serious?” line that has him known as the greatest Joker in the Batman world.

Bale continues where he left off in the previous movie portraying the lifestyles of both the flashy billion-dollar playboy Bruce Wayne and the crime fighting Dark Knight himself, The Batman.

Nolan sustains constant action throughout the movie that keeps viewers eyes on the screen. The roar of the monstrous Batmobile and the propelling sound of the Batclaw brings fans in closer to the environment and tools Batman is accustomed to using.

The Dark Knight is a graceful, well-orchestrated sequel that paves the way for Nolan to excel in his final installment of the series. Viewers are deeply indulged in his world as they patiently wait for the Bat Symbol to shine in the sky again.
