“The Leveret, A Ragtime Fantasie” by Jim Dee

The video above is a ragtime-based piece I’ve been working on called “The Leveret”, which I’ve orchestrated here for piano, violin, cello, and glockenspiel. To give the piece some narrative, let’s say that we start out in F with a classic-rag-inspired summertime frolic, move from that wonderment into a dark, breathy autumnal theme, reprise the initial dance (with some revisions), burrow into a slow, introspective winter theme in Eb, and then finally emerge, celebrating the resurgence of Spring with a joyous, new ragtime dance that pays homage to the original, yet blazes new ground, this time in F#.

At some point, I’ll post the orchestration, or at least the piano score, here as well.
