If you are preparing for GMAT, you need to understand the nature of the test. GMAT is a computer adaptive test, which means, the difficulty level of a particular question will depend on how you have answered the previous questions. One of the most effective ways to increase your GMAT score is to manage your time efficiently.

Sentence correction, critical reasoning, and reading comprehension are the three question types asked in the GMAT Verbal Section. 36 questions must be solved in 65 minutes.

The following points must be kept in mind to manage your time well:

  1. Divide your time

It is important to divide your time judiciously so that you get sufficient time to answer all questions. For example, a sentence correction question can be done in less time, so the time saved here can be utilised in doing reading comprehension and critical reasoning questions that typically require more time.

2. Mark and Move

If you find a question difficult and you are unable to solve it, it makes sense not to get stuck on that question. It’s better to move on to the next question and come back to it later if time permits.

3. Answer all question

Make sure that you don’t leave any question unanswered because there is no negative marking.

4. Use rough paper

While attempting the reading comprehension questions, it’s best to jot down important points on a paper for more accuracy. In other question types, the process of elimination can be done using scratch paper.

5. Time-based strategies

Use time-based techniques for all types of questions. Figure out ways through which more questions can be done in less time.

6. Practice on the system

GMAT is an online test. It’s advisable to take most of your mock tests on the computer system so that it becomes easy for you to take the actual test.

7. Identify your strong area

Identify your area of strength, master that area and try to achieve 100% accuracy in it. This will provide you with the extra edge required to complete the test within the stipulated time.

8. Regularity

Be regular while you are preparing for the test. Regularity will help you manage your time better and will also improve your score gradually.

9. Use all sources

Use different resources for preparation so that you become familiar with all types of questions asked in the exam.
