Jan. 18: Feast Then Famine

After a 12-game MLK Day indigestion, we went back to a rickety two-game slate on Tuesday

You wanted SOME games, right? The NBA surely handed you a VERY TASTY MEAL on Monday with 12 matches in celebration of MLK Day, but of course given the league-wide load-management approach and fitness concerns that were absolutely primed to NOT HAPPENING again, definitely not as soon as yesterday.

That’s how we found ourselves looking at a measly slate in which just a couple of games took place. Yikes. At least one of them was competitive, I guess… Golden State destroyed Detroit days before the Pistons land Ben Simmons and become a powerhouse. In the other affair, New York Knicked its way to a sound loss against the perennially-rebuilding Wolves, which were good to edge NYK by a couple of pops.

Gotta be CHEERFUL AT MINNY’S W as they are now sitting 7th in the West and above the Lakers in the standings, forcing Los Angeles to reportedly CONSIDER a potential Coach Vogel firing. #thisfranchise

  • Randle with the most-KNICKS-ever game yesterday: 21 points (no triples because Go-New-York, Go-New-York, GO!) and the close-but-no-cigar nine boards and nine dimes. He made up for the lack of dub-dubbing with two steals, four blocks, and the game-winning-allowed bucket to fellow big man KAT. SUBLIME.
  • Hamidou Diallo and Beef Stew with the double-doubles in Detroit’s loss to the Warriors. Even then, the man of the day was our boy Kevon Looney who finished with a stupid 0–10–3–1–1 line attempting just a couple of buckets and missing both in 24 minutes. Who wants a Wiseman having a Loon around?
  • Cade back to the early-season ways of putting up horrid performances, such as this eight-point-shooting-30-percent one. Ugh. Here’s hoping Simmons gets to town soon and fixes Cunningham’s game.
  • RJ Barrett keeps growing. So much so that he even topped the slate in turnovers on a random Monday with seven possessions gifted to Minnesota!
  • Jay-Kum’s 12–10–1–1 was nice, indeed. Only shot 4-of-10, yes, but hit a couple of treys and went a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Can’t complain.
