Let’s be HONEST for a minute here. Jayson Tatum is a UNIQUE TALENT. It is what it is, and you have to accept it. Back-to-back seasons with at least one game in the 50-pop realm? You bet. Career-high of 60+? Check. When it comes to dropping buckets, you name it. Only, you know, HOLD YOUR HORSES A BIT. Because there are these little things called VOLUME and RESPONSIBILITIES.

Facing the lowly Wiz Kiz on Sunday in a game Boston won by nearly 30 points, Tatum dropped 51 points. Of course, his largest mark of the season to date. That’s absolutely insane, full stop. Basketball has been around forever and the NBA for 75 years. From 1980 (3pt-line introduced) on, there have been just 115 players good enough to finish at least one game with 50 pops. Not bad to be part of that group, am I right? Kinda. Those 115 players have combined for as many as 322 individual 50-point games. Quite a lot, indeed, though a midget amount all history considered. Do you know how many cooked those 50 chicken wings in fewer than… TATUM’S 28 FGA on Sunday? 76 of them — for the nerds, a little over 24%. Add just a single FGA to make it 28-or-fewer and the count goes ALL THE WAY UP to 110 players.

Again. Is Tatum good? Yes. Is Tatum EXTRAORDINARY? NOT SO MUCH. When you get handed the opportunity to SHOOT THE ROCK 28 TIMES IN 33 MINUTES OF PLAYING TIME… even I would probably score a point or two in the NBA. 246 have hoisted 28+ FGA since 1980 and dumped at least 50 points on their opponents. That’s Tatum. A VOLUME EATER, no more, no less. FEED A FOOL, GIVE HIS LOVERS FUEL.

  • Cade and Jalen kept the ROOKS IN THE NEWS with 18 and 15 points respectively on 15 and 10 FGA shooting 46% and 47% from the field. Both of them FILLED the line with 5–8–1–1 and 5–7–2–1 contribs on tops of those pops. Not bad. Also, Suggs seemingly CAN DUNK.
  • Porzingis did everything to try and drag Dallas down to a loss against the Griz, but good for the Mavs there was some Luka Doncic around to save the day for the CUBAN BOYS. Luka with the DILLY 37–11–9–3–1 packed outcome falling JUST ONE DIME short of trip-dubbing. Of course, KP missed five field goals, and hitting the net in just one of those opportunities would have been enough for Doncic TO TRIP-DUB, though… KP.
  • Jokic with another NONSENSICAL outing, and it’s already been…
  • R.J. Barrett TAKING THE LEAP. We’ve already PUT YOU ON DEFCON 1 NOTICE through the season, but just in case: 28–14 with three triples and six dimes. Impressive 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Only needed to use a TEAM-FRIENDLY 28% of NYK possessions in comparison to Tatum’s ball-hogging 41% usage rate. JUST SAYING.
  • LBJ is doing the IMPOSSIBLE at age-37, yes, but my man Chris P seems to be going a little bit overboard these days, ain’t he? STOP with the H*TE, it LEADS NOWHERE, folks. James by the way with the 33–11–4–2 in a healthy 40 minutes. It’s cool and all, but KARL MALONE PUT UP A 30–10 while aged 37+ as many as 19 FREAKING TIMES.
  • Jimmy Buckets with the NICE AND EASY triple-double to become the GREATEST HEAT at such endeavor, of course DETHRONING KING James. 20–10–12 was the line on the night logging 39 minutes of playing time… and of course beating the Lake Show. Can’t write it any better.
  • #SPLITTHEC’s, honestly. Jaylen Brown with an 18–10–1–1 stinker in which he shot 28% from the floor hosting 18 shots. Yes, that’s one point per shot. And he hit two freebies, making things WORSE.
  • Royce O’Neale doing Royce O’Neale THANGS, which is EASY because it basically comes down to DOING NOTHING. Actually, he did something. MISSING THE LAST FIELD GOAL OF THE GAME WITH A CHANCE TO SEND IT TO OT.
