The video “A Vision of Students Today” was incredibly accurate about our use of technology and how it affects our academics.

It was interesting to see the statistics of how much time students spend doing activites on the internet versus activities off the internet. For example the statistic that said students on average will read 8 books in their academic year but they will also read 2,300 web pages.

I think many academic institutions are realizing that fact and there is a strong trend in using technology as an aid to teaching. This only increases time spent with technology, which can be good or bad depending on how you view technology and the real world.

I believe one of the cons of using this technology in the classroom is that it provides the temptation to become distracted. At some point in the video a student shows his laptop and confesses that he often scrolls though Facebook instead of taking notes and paying attention. I see this all the time in class and I even did it myself a few times. Now I no longer use my laptop in the classroom unless I absolutely need it.
