How a Giveaway Changed a Life
Kids are the future. We must put them first, and when their health is on the line, we must be the ones to put a foot forward and fight for them.
My name is Alicia and I am a nurse at Children’s Grace Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. I have been a nurse for over 30 years.
The experiences I’ve had have been both appalling and beautiful. As a nurse, there are some of those patients that just stand out to you.
For me, that patient was a young lady named Sarah.
Sarah was only the ripe age of four years old when I tended to her. She was the brightest and sweetest patient I think I had ever had.
Sarah was diagnosed with Leukemia when she had just turned four-years-old. She never complained about a thing, unless it was that her Carrie Underwood CD had quit playing.
Sarah had a strong love for Carrie Underwood’s music. She was a country girl at heart and stayed that way as her fifth and sixth birthday rolled around.
On Sarah’s sixth birthday, Healing Harmonies for Kids (HHK), held their first giveaway to thank all of their supporters.
Sarah had followed the non profit on all their social media platforms after I had suggested it to her as some form of moral support.
Sarah entered HHK’s first giveaway after following their social medias and she submitted a video of her personal journey with music.
In the video Sarah said she wakes up every morning looking forward to listening to Carrie Underwood. She explained that her personal favorite was “Jesus Take the Wheel”.
What Was the Prize?
HHK announced they were giving away a brand new and untouched acoustic guitar.
Not only was this a custom-made guitar, but none other than Carrie Underwood signed it!
This prize was estimated to be worth over $15,000 dollars!
The best part of all? Sarah won it!
Seeing the pure happiness in her eyes the day she received her price from HHK was priceless. I would relive it over and over again if I could.
HHK stated their hope to see all of the participants encouraging, uplifting and starting conversation among themselves about their own journeys with music.
